Schiergen talks up Nutan

Trainer Peter Schiergen believes that Nutan can continue to improve following Sunday's emphatic victory in the German .

The three-year-old ran out a comfortable victor in Hamburg after he finished five lengths clear of the field under the guidance of jockey Andrasch Starke and his 50-year-old trainer was delighted with his maiden Grade One success.

He said: “He has just improved from start to start and for him to come and win a Group One, the German Derby, we are very pleased.”

The German believes the Bay Colt has benefited from being eased into race action and he expects the horse to improve further going into next season.

He continued: “We have known for a while he is a good horse, but as I told the owner last year, he is a horse who needed time. I knew he would be a better horse this year than last year and I think he can be even better next season.”

The Stall Nizza-owned horse is expected to be next in action at a Group One race in Berlin on August 9 and Schiergen has confirmed that he will decide over the next couple of races whether to enter him in the prestigious Prix de l'.

He revealed: “He does not have an entry in the Arc. We will look at his next two starts and then talk with the owner and decide.”
