O’Brien talks of retiring Adelaide

Trainer Aidan O’Brien believes that Adelaide never got to truly prove his ability following the announcement of his retirement.

Adelaide will stand at the operation’s stud in New South Wales after it was confirmed he will not race again.

The son of Galileo finished eighth in his last outing in the Group One Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick earlier this month.

O’Brien believes that the four-year-old never really got to show his full potential despite landing the Grade One Secretarial Stakes at Arlington in August.

O’Brien said: “He was all class. On fast ground he was a brilliant horse and I don’t think we ever really got to see the best of him.

“I was very confident of having a big summer with him in Europe this year.”
